Alex Bates
IT Director
At Pyramid:
Alex joined Pyramid Communications in 2001 to ensure the smooth functioning of the office computer systems. His diverse professional background, which ranges from youth program development to graphic design and technical consulting, is put to full use in his role as Pyramid’s IT Director. Alex’s focus on technical, organizational and facilities issues aids the smooth functioning of the company. He is responsible for strategic planning of technology systems, computer system deployment and the management of Pyramid’s facilities. On an individual level, he provides day-to-day technical and office support and coordinates staff training for all Pyramid employees. His efforts allow other staff members to focus on producing outstanding results for clients. Alex is also a founding member of the Pyramid Green Team, ensuring that actions are taken to consider and reduce the environmental impact of the company.
After Hours:
Alex grew up with a love and respect for nature and the outdoors. Since moving to Seattle from New York, Alex spends as much time as he can exploring the far-reaching trails of the Cascades. He is an avid outdoor sports enthusiast and enjoys skiing, hiking, backpacking and fishing. In 2010, Alex became a dad and has been reveling in the trials and joys of being a parent. He has taken every opportunity to foster the love he has for the outdoors in his son.
Background:
Before joining Pyramid, Alex worked as a computer consultant in the Seattle design community with clients such as Nintendo of America, Holland America Lines, Xylo and Nextel. He also worked as a multimedia designer in London, where his clients included WH Smith, Invensys PLC and First:Telecom.
Alex graduated from the State University of New York in 1999 with a degree in English and photography. He learned the ins and outs of technology through a passion for the discovery of what makes things work, and an enjoyment of breaking things and then making them work again.
