Nancy J. Kaufman

Nancy J. Kaufman

Senior Strategist (of counsel)
At Pyramid:

Nancy is a senior strategist at Pyramid and consults on a range of projects in health and healthcare, development and philanthropy. She brings more than 35 years of healthcare and philanthropy experience in acute healthcare settings, public health administration, a national health foundation and a large healthcare system. Her clients include federal government agencies, international health organizations, universities, national health organizations, hospitals and health systems and foundations.

After Hours:

Nancy enjoys spending time in her wildflower and tranquility gardens (quite a contrast from her ardent support for youth and collegiate ice hockey teams). When not volunteering for public television or Red Cross disaster relief assignments, Nancy retreats to her studio, designing art quilts and garments.

Background:

Before joining Pyramid, Nancy was vice president of philanthropy for the Aurora Health Care system and managed development and foundation work through Aurora's hospitals and agencies. Prior to that, Nancy served for 12 years as vice president of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the nation's largest philanthropy devoted exclusively to health. In this position she created and managed programs to improve population health and primary care, enhance the healthcare workforce and reform the healthcare system. Nancy has international health experience as a consultant to the World Health Organization and has consulted with health ministries and organizations in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Canada. She participated in WHO treaty negotiations in Geneva for three years.

Nancy also has 19 years of experience in leadership roles within state government. She reorganized and led Wisconsin’s public health agency, serving as its deputy director. Nancy guided and managed the drafting and passage of major health legislation, including one of the nation’s first comprehensive AIDS/HIV statutes, public health statute reform, childhood immunization law, a high risk infant act, preventive health services and maternal/child health laws, and legislation around cancer control, asbestos and lead screening and abatement.

Nancy graduated with a B.S. in nursing from the University of Wisconsin and a M.S. in administrative medicine from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine.
