There will be a special discounted admission rate for groups who complete their registration by April 30. Please contact SHI at 907-463-4844 for an application or visit www.sealaskaheritage.org

Applications for Juried Art Competition Due March 31
SHI is accepting applications for its third biennial Juried Art Show and Competition through the end of March. Jurors will award artists for best of show and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for contemporary and traditional Native art. The Institute will announce winners on May 31, the evening before Celebration 2006. The application is available at www.sealaskaheritage.org or by contacting Marie Kirkman at 907-586-9232 or marie.kirkman@sealaska.com. Applications must be postmarked by March 31.

SHI to Expand Native Artists Market
SHI will expand the Native Artists Market during Celebration to include tables at Sealaska Plaza. The goal is to test the market for Native art by putting artists closer to tourists. Tables are given on a first come, first serve basis. Artists are required to fill out an application, pay a table fee of $300 and show proof of a current business license. Artists must tend to their tables—agents are not allowed to sell art on the artists’ behalf. Artists who want to secure a table should contact Donald Gregory at 907-463-4844 or donald.gregory@sealaska.com

SHI Needs Volunteers to Help With Celebration
SHI is recruiting volunteers to help with Celebration 2006. Celebration is a collaborative effort between SHI staff and a team of volunteers. This event could not happen without the hundreds of people who generously donate their time. People who want to volunteer should contact SHI at 907-463-4844. Volunteers who work four hours or more get a free, one-day pass!

SHI to Sponsor First Baby Regalia Review
SHI will sponsor its first Baby Regalia Review during Celebration to highlight the 2006 theme: "Reflections of Our Ancestors in the Faces of Our Children." Children ages 2 and younger are eligible. Children should be dressed in traditional regalia. The goal is to honor our ancestors and to instill pride in our children. Applications and other documentation must be postmarked by May 1. Participants must be a Sealaska shareholder or Sealaska shareholder descendant. For more information visit www.sealaskaheritage.org or contact Dionne Cadiente-Laiti at 907-586-9264 or dionne.cadientelaiti@sealaska.com.

SHI to Showcase Videos Produced by Natives
SHI will show videos produced by Alaska Natives during Celebration 2006. The goal is to recognize Natives already in this field and to encourage Natives to enter the business of filmmaking. Native filmmakers who want to submit their films should contact Kathy Dye at 907-586-9189 or kathy.dye@sealaska.com.
