Centered over the Four Corners in the Southwest, the Colorado Plateau is a geologically, biologically, and culturally rich environment, where more than a dozen tribal nations reside. Yet a way of life is at risk.
Water is becoming a more precious resource. Culturally important lands are threatened by industrial development. Ancestral knowledge is in jeopardy as languages disappear.
The Colorado Plateau Foundation was founded with an ambitious vision: To strengthen the region’s Native-run organizations in order to sustain the lands, waters, and cultures that exist there. The Foundation is bringing national resources to the region’s tribal organizations, which are essential to solving the environmental and cultural challenges faced by all people living on the Plateau.
A regionally-centered design
As a nascent organization, the Foundation’s own challenge was to reach the groups who stood to benefit from their grants. They needed a name, message, and visual brand that illustrated their distinctive style and focus. And they needed something cohesive yet resonant with the region’s diverse tribes.
From the beginning, Pyramid partnered with the Foundation to make these goals a reality.
To kick things off, we chose a name that spoke to their place-based focus. We conducted research on the stories, traditions, and visual patterns of the tribes on the Colorado Plateau, which inspired a powerful visual brand.
The new look and feel manifested in a variety of materials, including a visually stunning book that tells the story of the Foundation and its impact. The website offers a clean design and straightforward architecture, with clear calls to action. We built the site for future scalability, with room to add the unfolding stories of its grantees as it grows.
From vision to impact
The Colorado Plateau Foundation is equipped with powerful storytelling tools that can help expand grantmaking. Even better, they are walking side by side with Native grantees, helping them realize their visions for their communities.
