Activating space

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) sought to spearhead a broad initiative to reintegrate physical activity into American life by fostering places—buildings, neighborhoods, downtowns, transportation networks—that support walking, bicycling and other forms of physical activity.

Pyramid’s role in the creation of the Active Living Network—a coalition of 70 organizations representing millions of people around the U.S.—has been far-reaching. Central to our comprehensive effort was a website designed to be the go-to resource for news, information and best practices. By employing open-source technology (Drupal) and campaign-building strategies, visitors were able to comment on features; rate or bookmark materials; search for information by topic, keyword or activity; subscribe to RSS feeds based on interest areas and more.

Activeliving.org was named one of the “Ten Best Websites of 2007” by Planetizen, the highly trafficked urban planning and development network. Pyramid also developed similar functionality for Active Living Research and Active Living by Design.
