Sealaska Corporation

Sealaska is one of the largest Native entities in the United States with more than 20,000 tribal members of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian descent. Sealaska was formed as a Native Corporation under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) in 1971 to provide economic, cultural and social benefits to the Native people of Southeast Alaska.

Pyramid is Sealaska’s primary communications partner, providing ongoing support at all levels, from strategic planning to materials development to government affairs. We work closely with Sealaska year-round, producing its annual reports and tribal member shareholder newsletters, offering communications support to subsidiary organizations and providing strategic counsel to the corporation on all facets.

In June 2007, tribal member shareholders voted to allow the next generation of tribal members to enroll in Sealaska. Pyramid managed the multi-year campaign that led to the historic vote. In the first few months following the vote, Sealaska welcomed more than 1,600 new members.

We currently provide strategic counsel on Sealaska’s natural resources land initiative, which seeks to allow the corporation to gain control of its full land entitlement promised nearly 40 years ago by the federal government. Pyramid produces materials and reaches out to key political leaders and environmental organizations to build support for this legislation.

Since our partnership was formed in 1993, we have watched Sealaska grow—both as an economic engine and as a cultural base for its tribal member shareholders.
