Global housewarming

Mercy Corps

Mercy Corps’ more than 3,700 professionals work together with the people they serve to alleviate hunger, poverty, marginalization, and economic instability in more than 40 countries around the globe. Based in Portland, Ore., Mercy Corps’ work spans 32 core areas, including agriculture, climate change, population displacement, microfinance, youth and women’s empowerment. They are often among the first responders to natural disasters, devastation by war and other international emergencies.

After years of operating from numerous buildings scattered across Portland, Mercy Corps decided to bring its global headquarters under one roof in the heart of the Old Town neighborhood. For Portlanders, the Mercy Corps headquarters and Action Center would become the hub for global and local action, a source of civic pride, and a model for environmental sustainability. Mercy Corps needed an event-planning partner to mark this momentous occasion and to reconnect with the Pacific Northwest community.

Pyramid helped create and implement a series of celebratory launch events that included an exclusive donor appreciation event, a ribbon cutting ceremony and a public launch party. Attendance at all three events was tremendous. Media coverage was broad and overwhelmingly positive. Most importantly, Mercy Corps shared its story with the greater community, inspiring and harnessing Portlanders’ extraordinary civic energy to tackle hunger and poverty issues that exist right in their own backyard, as well as around the world.
