Zoo story

Woodland Park Zoo

As a leader in the global effort to protect animals and their habitats, Woodland Park Zoo’s (WPZ) story is relevant and timely. As one of our region's leading conservation and education organizations, WPZ sought to heighten public understanding of its mission and share its story more effectively with everyone from its 1.2 million annual visitors to key opinion leaders.

To help build understanding about why the zoo matters, we developed and implemented a brand evolution and outreach strategy to tell the zoo's story to targeted individuals in the community, including business leaders, elected officials, nonprofit advocates and others.

To support implementation of the community outreach strategy, Pyramid developed and conducted a "storytelling workshop" with WPZ’s board of directors aimed at equipping a broader pool of spokespeople to effectively talk about why the zoo is a critical asset, in our region and around the globe.

Our work to support a 2008 groundbreaking for WPZ’s Humboldt Penguin Exhibit led to a successful event. Featuring elected officials from the City of Seattle and King County, major donors, school groups and community leaders, the event was a celebration of the zoo's work on protecting endangered species and of the sustainability efforts taking place throughout the 92-acre campus. With wide television and print news coverage, the event was also a successful step in telling a broader audience about the zoo's innovative work.
